An old and a new "small wheel" will be transported between the Meyrin site to Point 1 of the LHC as part of the improvement of the ATLAS detector on Friday 2 July and Tuesday 6 July 2021, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
These new iconic detectors are an essential part of the ATLAS experiment. The new wheel will be moved to LHC Point 1 on 6 July and installed in the ATLAS cavern in the coming months. The old wheel will eventually become part of the Esplanade des Particules for exhibition purposes.
Given their size and the fragility of their components, these elements of 10 metres in diameter will be subject to exceptional transport operated by the company Friderici. The Geneva cantonal police as well as Geneva public transport have been informed of this operation, which is likely to generate traffic disruptions on the Meyrin / RD984F route, due to the temporary stoppage of traffic at the CERN Entrance B intersection.
